When trying to register it keeps telling me there is an error and to check all required fields. I have done this several times, including filling in fields not required but it still refuse to register me.

This mean you have clean installation of In-Portal somewhere with for example "advanced" theme selected and you are unable to register new user on Front-End?

If so, then please provide direct url to your installation (if possible here, if not possible, then email me/Dmitry directly) and also provide information you are entering on registration form.
