In Editing Section we have field for Short URL and External URL. What is it?
In Portal Directory I created section and in that Editing Section I assigned URL to that directory by enter link. How that works to get users to go by follow that URL?

Section term in In-Portal 5.x means a page. It's called a section, because you can place anything (e.g. link, article, product) inside that section.

Each page has it's own "long" url, that is generated automatically based on it's location in menu.

"Short URL" is an url, that can be used open that page (e.g. shortcut), but you won't see it in menu.

"External URL" is used to create menu entries that would lead to other website, e.g. to http://www.google.com instead of another page on current website.

Alex, I tried to use that URL but does not work.

On our site we have list of Departments with diferent names - http://pcseba.org/index.php?env=-portal_directory/departments:m17-1-1-9-s-
In each Department as a Section we have articles of activity.

But one department created their own website and asking me to place link to their website so users will able to go directly to that link. I created link in Section Description but they ask me for posibility to go to that link by click on the name of that section.

I entered External URL into section MISSIONARY DEPARTMENT. Clik on this name in the directory list I still get this http://pcseba.org/index.php?env=-portal_directory/departments/missionary:m24-1-1-9-s-

And this look weird becouse empty page and just link in description.

Have you enabled "Use External Url" checkbox and then pasted url that look like http:// into external url field?

Also these external urls only work when you're printing menu using <inp2:st_CachedMenu/> tag. They won't work if you have a category listing on a website and just want one category to lead to other website.

I considered this an error and fixed it in 5.2.0 version of In-Portal.
